There’s always a reason to smile….and we found a lot of them!

Consider this: You wake up, trudge to the kitchen for that first cup of eye-opening java. Wait--rewind. What about: wake up, stretch, and SMILE (😊)! Sweeten that coffee with your morning smile! You will soon realize you have a brand-new day to do your mischief!  And if you take time for a quick look in the mirror, you will discover a curve that sets everything straight with the world…sometimes even before coffee!

Best reason to smile? Not only does it encourage others, but it also feels good and is good for your health. The more you smile the more positive you feel. Smiles remove stress, raise endorphins and lower blood pressure – all are benefits proven to increase longevity. Free health care—in your face!!

What….not feeling very upbeat, you say? Studies have shown that even if you aren’t feeling particularly like smiling, a forced smile or a half attempt at smiling can still release those feel-good endorphins in your brain.

Yea, Yea, we know there are negative smiles out there, intended to convey contempt, disgust, or superiority, but we consider those “faux smiles” --definitely NOT part of an active positive lifestyle! We are talking about smiles that encourage and connect with folks around you.

Bill: I’ve discovered smiling makes people wonder what I’m up to…and it seems to really annoy negative people. :)

Sheri:  I think the proof as to how important smiling is, is in realizing everyone smiles in the same language. We may not understand what someone is saying, but smiles are universal. And I just read about a study that said one smile can give you the same amount of immediate happiness as eating 2,000 chocolate bars…crazy!

Bill: Hm, I bet that study was not sponsored by Hershey!

Final tidbit of happiness: smiles are contagious—seriously, they are! Your brain automatically notices and interprets other people's facial expressions. When someone smiles at you, you will smile back.

So, if you see someone without a smile today, give ‘em yours!
