“Almost everything will work again if you unplug it for a few minutes, including you.”

(Anne Lamott)

It’s good to know what tickles your fancy and how to tickle it…sort of what cruising is for us—call us cruise bums, and for us it is the best way to unplug. That warm sun in the winter months helps keep our heads screwed on straight--not to minimize how great it feels to have the sun warming our body parts.

With the holidays over and January 2nd hits, we start searching for cruises to warmer climates to warm us and to renew our focus. We tend to take 5–8-day cruises, as it takes us a few days just to get into the wonderful rhythm of cruise life.

Bill: Remember Goldilocks? “Too hot, too cold…just right?”  That’s us with the sun and cruising.

Sheri: Yep, cruising just seems to be a natural fit, and best part? We almost always come away with some great photos for our collection.

So, we not only plan on taking a cruise each year, we also “plan” the cruise. Ok, ok, we hear you: “planning” often gets a bad rap, as some folks feel excessive planning takes away that spark of spontaneity. In our case, we find planning adds to the fun of our cruising. As we begin to plan it, we look through pictures of previous cruises, and we start anticipating what we already know will be a great time--we start having fun just thinking about it!

Once you and your several thousand fellow passengers all squish through that last security check and board your ship, there’s nothing but food, fun and sun waiting ahead.

Cruising Is a great way to expand our world, with new ports of call to explore showcasing original art, crafts, and live entertainment of the folks who live there.

Sheri:  Along with blissful sunning (and strategic shading!) and reading on deck, I especially love to watch people and imagine what their life is like…hm, guess that human curiosity explains why I am a storyteller!

We enjoy our scrabble and cards to entertain ourselves in our down time….it always surprises us when we are able to find a perfect area to relax all to ourselves despite their being as many as 5,000 crew and passengers on board.

Bill: I am pretty sure that when I go through that last security check, they attach a magnet that pulls me to the ice cream machines…it’s the only way I can explain why I am there so often on every cruise we go on.

Sheri: Speaking of food, there is always an overabundance of food available on every cruise, but we have learned we feel a whole lot better if we eat moderately and choose healthy selections, (right, Bill?😊)

The entertainment is always enjoyable with live music available throughout the ship and plenty of live productions and comedy shows for the evening.

Sheri: And every evening we also get room entertainment with a special visit from the cruise zoo…we never know who will be visiting our room next.

Bill: Could it be a frog, monkey, dog, or--maybe it’s an “elephino”? Not sure.

Summer is almost here, and our seasonal cruising is done. We are fully unplugged; we have sharpened our axe and come home recharged. Now to get busy reviewing all the new pictures we took so we can send a few more stories your way!

Positively speaking,
