It’s always time to connect...
This time of year we see folks conger warm feelings of thankfulness, connection and hope. From Thanksgiving day through New Year’s Day, there are celebrations of harvest, thankfulness and worship. Friends and family gather, recall glowing memories, and plan for new ones. Drumsticks and bounty, religious ceremony, and commercial glitz crescendo with sky lit pyro-techniques. Of course, all these doings are heightened by social connection. After all, how can you have an annual family snowball fight without willing adversaries?
Bill: Human connection, when done properly is an addictive stimulant and stress reliever. From the moment of birth we demand the presence of our caregiver. Our brains are wired for survival, and social connection is primal. As we grow, we quickly find out it is almost impossible to score a touchdown or build a rocket ship by ourselves. Even those of us with the best skills and productive thoughts cannot apply them without the social skills of a leader that knows the value of connecting with teammates.
Sheri: As seniors, we clearly understand the value of connecting—connecting is a medical and emotional booster shot, a necessary part of living our lives to the fullest. It leaves us refreshed, rejuvenated, encouraged by the moment, and always looking forward to the next.
Reach out to your friends and loved ones and stay connected--holidays can also be a lonely time for some folks. And good news, connecting is a two-way street: it’s impossible to give or receive too many hugs and smiles!
