Aah--creative energy…
“In humans, creativity manifests as the ability to think beyond the ordinary, to challenge the status quo, and to envision new possibilities.” (Dr Marina Nani)
Sounds pretty lofty and unattainable, right? Well, not true! While we aren’t all famous writers, artists, musicians, scientists, or inventors whose work has stood the test of time (and maybe even changed the world), everyone has creative energy--the trick is how to channel it.
Passion is a good place to start—pretty sure you can find some creative energy in those nooks and crannies of your life where you are most passionate—where you more than “give-a damn”. For us, it is in writing, photography, and music. It only makes sense that creative energy hangs out where your passions lie. Then it’s just a matter of posing a problem or asking yourself a few key questions about your passion to engage your mind more deeply and to squeeze your creative juices.
There are so many innovative small businesses today that became overnight successes which began from a few simple but strategic questions like “what if I just….” “wouldn’t it work better if…” well, you get the point. You don’t have to be famous to supply the world with some new innovation that can be appreciated by many!
Bill: A perfect example is my story behind this image: Every day we would drive past our neighborhood power lines, and then one day it dawned on me this might be a photo opportunity. I asked myself (I appreciate my opinion), “Self, what if we get up early, gather up our trusty cameras and tripods, hop in the car and scoot over to the power lines? We could align ourselves beneath the power lines, share a warm cup of coffee and wait for the sun to come to us. Wouldn’t that be a great picture?” Success! We were able to use our creative energy and capture this image which tells a story even before we add a few words.
So where do your passions lie and what great questions can you ask yourself to begin channeling your creative energy? A better pet gate, a blog to inspire folks about whatever you are passionate about, a more efficient way to pack, etc. There are no rules or limits on creative energy – it’s yours to tap into and channel...have fun!
Bill: (p.s. If you see me mumbling to myself in the corner someday, nope, I’m not crazy--I’m just trying to channel my creative energy…I may be crazy for other reasons though!)
