“Wish not so much to live long, as to live well.” (Ben Franklin)
We love clever motivational sayings! And sharing them with everyone is even better. In our collective life experiences and in today’s fast track world, a daily dose of positivity is a fun “happy meal” recipe we can serve. On our menu: 1 motivational saying + 1 colorful original image = Motivational Flavor of the Day.
"We think we can, we think we can..."
Bill: My early childhood was filled with motivational power words like “I think I can, I think I can, I think I can” from the Little Engine That Could, and “Here I come to save the day!” from Mighty Mouse who always believed in himself. Both were popular by the time I lost my first tooth. And who can forget Popeye the Sailor Man who practiced healthy eating “I’m strong to the finish, cuz I eat my spinach”. He was a scruffy but spirited and clever cartoon character who encouraged a generation of kids to become strong by eating more spinach.
Sheri: The right phrase can be a powerful catalyst and motivation for extraordinary action. It can be an affirmation of your current annoying predicament, or simply entertaining. We tend to hold on to words that mean something and work for us--reminders of how we want to live and view our lives.
Bill: A couple of my favorite sayings are “Floss only the teeth you want to keep” (my dentist), and “Don't let the old man catch you.” (Clint Eastwood).
As photojournalists, we have learned that a great picture all by itself tells a story. Then marry it to just the right iconic motivational saying and you can tell an even more powerful story. ("Put ‘em together and what do you got? Bippity-boppity-boo.”)
Sheri: This motivational image is one of my personal favorites: “I choose to be healthy, it’s good for my happiness…I choose to be happy, it’s good for my health…” We paired that saying with a favorite sunrise over the ocean—it never fails to inspire me!
Bill: Photographers capture and share moments and turn pictures into images. A trick I use is to name the image before taking the picture. That way I know the story to be told and can better create the image--which brings us back to our mission of using a lens with a positive point of view.
We embrace words of wisdom and inspiration daily. And even though some sayings may be cliché and no longer touted as “cool”, words of wisdom and inspiration help keep our heads screwed on straight--especially when taken daily with 3 eight-ounce glasses of water, proper nutrition, and regular exercise. The right words can be just what the doctor, your personal trainer (or bartender?) ordered…and they can’t hurt, right?
Positively Speaking, “Sheri & Bill...Story Tellers in Word, Image and Song.”
